Panic Attack! From $300 to a whopping $30 Million deal in just a few days, seems to happen only in Hollywood. Well, an Uruguayan guy just did it. A producer from Uruguay, Fede Alvarez made a “Panic Attack!” move that got him a Hollywood deal.
Fede Alvarez made a short film entitled “Ataque de Pánico!” (Panic Attack!) on a tight budget of $300. The viral video featured gigantic robots invading and destroying the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. The less than five-minute video already reached more than 1.9 million views on YouTube.
On an interview with BBC, Fede Alvarez said that, “I uploaded “Ataque de Pánico! (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios.” Cutting the long story short, the bidding process followed. The offer he got, a $30 miilion deal to make a Hollywood film with Sam “Spiderman” Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures.
The sci-fi movie he has been asked to produce will be shot in Argentina and Uruguay. Is it a full-length movie version of the “Panic Attack!”? Looks like it won’t be from this deal because he said that he intends to start from scratch and develop a new story for the project.
